We are used to having fun made for us, by the pros in the so-called culture industries (TV, entertainment biz, etc.). We are only passive consumers or maybe participants. We buy a CD, we go to the movies, we attend an event.
Hollywood or Nintendo make culture like other factories make shoes. But really, culture has always been made by people like you and me. It's not a product. But we are forgetting how to make all things ourselves. Can you make your own shoes? How about your own movie? How about a good time? Kalle Lasn says, we need "a new culture with a non-commercial heart and soul."
Nobody is going to make that for us. We have to make it ourselves, with our own hands. A consumer monster, a zenta claus, a coffee-for rice exchange cafe- these are all contributions to a new global non-commercial culture. We are all looking forward to your contribution.
